Horse + job + personal life: is it really possible to reconcile everything without becoming a centaur?
You work 35 hours (minimum), you do your shopping quickly between meetings, you have a horse (or several), care to provide, competitions to prepare for, a bit of a social life to maintain (when you have the time)... and you also try to sleep, sometimes.
In short: you're experiencing that wonderful equestrian schizophrenia of wanting to do everything in badass rider mode, but without sacrificing your sanity . Is it possible? Can you be a functional adult AND a dedicated rider without turning into an exhausted centaur? Spoiler alert: yes, but not without a few adjustments. Here are some suggestions.
🧠 1. Accept that you can't be everywhere (and that's okay)
You want to do well, you want to do everything. That's normal. But spoiler alert: even Supercavalier needs rest.
Start by prioritizing what really matters to you .
👉 Will your employer survive if you refuse a meeting scheduled for 7pm?
👉 Couldn't your to-do list also include: "take a nap"?
🖐 Quick tip: make a real list (yes, in writing) of what you need to do VS what you're putting pressure on yourself to do. They're often very different.
📅 2. Create your riding schedule like a CEO
You plan your meetings? Do the same with your horse time.
Even if you're going up for fun, it's your moment , and it deserves to be as non-negotiable as an important appointment.
🧩 Weekly organization idea:
- 2 "quality" sessions during the week
- 1 to 2 "short" visits (care, cuddles)
- One guilt-free day where you do… something else (yes, yes, you have the right)
You don't need to be at the stable every day to be a good rider. You need to be there when you are .
🧘 3. Forget about perfection: aim for progress
You'll always see on Insta a rider with a horse cleaner than your bathroom and an impeccable outfit... on a Thursday morning.
But what you might not see is the stress, the fatigue, or the fact that she hasn't seen her bed for 2 days.
👉 Your life is not a story contest.
👉 Your well-being (and that of your horse) matters more than a 100% schedule.
🛠️ 4. Life-changing tools
Here are some practical ideas to help you get organized without pulling your hair out:
- Google Calendar or Notion : to plan your weeks with an overview.
- Equestrian to-do list : a quick weekly checklist (outings, care, hay orders…).
- Sharing tasks : if you are boarding, organize mutual support between riders for the days off.
❤️ 5. And if you want to bring a little more horse into your daily life…
Because sometimes, the lack of it eats you up inside: at work, in town, between phone calls... You can subtly integrate your passion into your daily life:
- By wearing discreet but stylish equestrian clothing (hello to our collection 👋)
- By decorating your office with a little equestrian touch
- By giving yourself a micro "mental horse" break (where you think back on and visualize your good times with him) during your day
🐎 In summary
Being a rider isn't just about riding. It's an identity, a deep passion. And it can coexist with your job, your personal life, and your need to unwind .
But for that, you have to allow yourself to choose, to say no, to rebalance — and above all to love yourself even when you can't do everything.

❓Quick FAQ
I feel guilty when I don't have time to go to the stables, is that normal?
Yes, it's human nature. But your horse prefers a happy and rested rider to an exhausted and stressed one.
How much time should you spend with your horse to "do it right"?
There is no magic number. Quality > quantity.
What if I want to change careers to be closer to horses?
We'll be talking about it very soon in an upcoming article! 😉
